CHECK IN FOR CHARITY AT CASCADIA HOTEL & SUITES

VANCOUVER, B.C. November 18, 2010 – In the spirit of giving, Cascadia Hotel & Suites will donate a portion of its December 20 – 27 bookings to charity, while offering great rates, giving guests more reason than ever to check in this holiday season.

The donation is part of Cascadia Hotel & Suites participation in the Friends In Need program, an annual initiative held at the more than 24 hotels across Canada managed by SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, including Cascadia Hotel & Suites. Under the program, the hotel offers low holiday rates and donates $10 from each booking during the campaign goes to a special charity. The Cascadia Hotel & Suites has chosen Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society as its Friends in Need recipient.

“This is the eleventh year of Friends in Need and we are thrilled to have partnered with The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. It’s such a worthwhile cause and we are looking forward to working with our guests to help them out this holiday season,” says Hotel General Manager Judy Adams.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) was established in 1982 when many small organizations, church groups and concerned citizens joined together in response to the hunger crisis during the economic recession in 1981. The purpose of the GVFBS was to be a temporary social service provider; however, because the number of those suffering from hunger problems has continued to increase, the GVFBS has become one of the most important non-government funded food assistance providers in Canada. In 1982, the GVFBS assisted 200 people. Today, the GVFBS helps feed up to 9,000 people each week in 15 depots located in Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver and the North Shore. Additionally, the GVFBS aids over 100 food-serving agencies within these areas, providing help to approximately another 16,000 individuals weekly.

“The Cascadia Hotel & Suites’s Friends In Need program provides a financial boost to our organization and the people we serve in our communities,” says Doug Aason, Director of Community Investment. “We are pleased to be a recipient of this great program and applaud the Cascadia Hotel & Suites, SilverBirch Hotels and Resorts, and all the guests who check in, for their support.”

Started in 1999, the Friends In Need program has distributed over $900,000 to charities across Canada. This year, the program has been expanded with a goal to raise more funds than ever. The target for this year’s program is $86,000.

Testimonials

We truly enjoyed the hotel and its facilities. The business centre was excellent and found that the pool and kids room helped to entertain our little ones. The room service meals were excellent and the portions large, which is a great combination.
